Last week, I made it clear that my heart belongs to Boston, despite its excess humidity and lack of high fashion. I like its alleged cantankerous attitude. I love its athletic superiority, collegiate influence, and, yes, the South End’s cobblestone sidewalks. (I believe I said I want to kiss them).
If my gushing was uncomfortable for you, I apologize. I was happy to be home, after being stranded in Seattle, courtesy of Hurricane/Tropical Storm/Terrorizer-of-Vermont Irene. However, this week, it seems fitting that I show love for New York City, home to some of the most heroic Americans of our generation, of which we were reminded on the 10-year anniversary of September 11.
It’s also home to my brother, Reece, who appears on Bloomberg Television tonight, as part a reality show following his tech start-up and 6 other businesses as they launch their dreams into reality. If not to toast the launching of dreams into reality, what is a sister for?
So, I’m here in the city that never sleeps (much like its tech scene, as you’ll see in the show). In the past, I’ve been critical of NYC, mostly because it’s pretty brusque with me. It pushes me around. It siphons money from my wallet like Manolo Blahniks did to Carrie Bradshaw. It’s home to the Yankees. This morning, I cheerily greeted by cab driver outside Penn Station with Hi, how are you? and was met with a curt Shut the door! (And Bostonians are cantankerous?).
Yet, today, I have nothing but love for the land of the five boroughs and my bro. To kickoff the viewing festivities (Techstars airs at 9 PM), here are some OG highlights inspired by New York City, some featuring Reece. Take that Bloomberg TV— OGTV had him first!
